Virgin Hyperloop conducted first human ride on its new transport system

Virgin Hyperloop is an American transportation technology company that works to commercialize the high-speed technology concept called the Hyperloop.

The company was started on June 1, 2014, and working on Hyperloop systems intended to move passengers and goods at a speed of sound.

Now they made history by successfully conducted a human trial on this hyperloop. The test was conducted on October 8, 2020, in the Nevada desert, Las Vegas, USA.

Josh Giegel, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, and Sara Luchian, Director of Passenger Experience, were the first passenger to ride on this hyperloop.

“Hyperloop is about so much more than the technology. It’s about what it enables,” said Sara Luchian, Director of Passenger Experience for Virgin Hyperloop. “To me, the passenger experience ties it all together. And what better way to design the future than to actually experience it first-hand?”

You can see the experiment video on this.👇

In this experiment, they set the speed of the hyperloop at 172 per hour as the distance of this test is just 500 meters long and the diameter is 3.3 meters.

The company said they have already conducted nearly 400 tests on this track but it is the first time they have conducted a trial with human passengers.

what is Hyperloop?

The Hyperloop is a proposed high-speed transportation system in which specialized pods are accelerated through a low-pressure tube to achieve speeds near the speed of sound.

The basic idea of hyperloop is that the passenger pods or capsules travel through a tube, either above or below ground.

To reduce friction, Most but not all of the air is removed from the tubes by pumps. Overcoming air resistance is one of the biggest uses of energy in high-speed travel.

In musk's model, the pressure of the air inside the Hyperloop tube is one-sixth the pressure of the atmosphere on Mars.

It reduces the drag force of the air by 1000 times relative to sea level conditions. You can say it will be equivalent to flying above 150,000 feet in the sky.

The pod will get their velocity from an external linear electric motor effectively a round induction motor rolled flat.

The Hyperloop would be powered by solar panels placed on the top of the tube which would allow the system to generate more energy than it needs to run.

The concept was proposed by Tesla founder
Elon Musk and it was in development for several years. It was originally founded as Hyperloop Technologies before changing its name to Hyperloop one in 2016.

Then again it was changed to Virgin Hyperloop one after being acquired by Richard Brandson's Company. Now it is again changed to just Virgin Hyperloop.
