After the ban of 59 Chinese apps, now Government of India ban another 47 apps which are the clone app of popular apps like Tiktok lite, Helo lite, share it lite etc.

Moreover, the Indian government begin investigations on more than 275+ Chinese apps for violation of  “national security and user privacy”, according to a report by News 18.

The list of the newly banned app includes TikTok Lite, Helo Lite, ShareIt Lite, Bigo Lite, and VFY Lite. 

According to a separate report from Economic Times, the Government of India has drawn up a list of over 275 apps with Chinese connections. The list includes:

  • Tencent-backed PUBG mobile
  • Tencent‘s Ludo World and other apps
  • Zili and thirteen more apps by Xiaomi
  • AliExpress by Alibaba
  • Resso, Ulike, Capcut by TikTok-owner ByteDance
  • Games from Helsinki-based Supercell (which has Chinese investments)
Apps from:
  • Meitu
  • LBE Tech
  • Perfect Corp
  • Sina
  • Netease Games
  • Yoozoo Global

These apps are not banned yet but some of are in red-flagged due to privacy and security concern.
These apps are trying to send private data to its servers which are located in other countries. 

China poses a threat to sovereignty and integrity of India, according to officials who pointed to what they termed as China’s data-sharing norm that requires Chinese companies to share their private data, irrespective of where they operate.

Chinese companies have about 300 million monthly unique users in India. In addition to that, nearly two-thirds of smartphone users in India downloaded Chinese apps in their phone, according to a survey.

Meanwhile, a government committee set up to examine the data practices of the 59 banned apps and set a deadline for companies to submit their report.

Pubg mobile is one of the most downloaded apps in India with 175 million download which is approximately 24% of the total downloads.

A recent report by Apple inc says that many popular apps like TikTok, pubg and several other news apps are spying on clipboard to collect private information.
